- Chatgpt 4OS impressive image generation is now available for free
- It’s great for editing images as well as generating new
- There is a daily limit for free users that can be quite annoying
Chatgpts Viral 4O image generation features are now available for everyone for free, albeit with some boundaries that can make the new AI tool a little annoying.
The new native image generation announced by Openai CEO, Sam Altman, On X, has taken the world by storm thanks to its impressive ability to create images far better than Dall-E (the previous model used by chatgpt) ever could.
You may have seen the controversy around the image generation tool’s obvious copy of the Studio Ghibli-style-anime over the past week, but if not we have covered the drama in the long run here.
In this article I will show you three ways to use Chatgpt 4OS image generation that does not follow the anime recreation trend.
Why only three you may be asking? Well, unfortunately, the daily limit of free users is only three image generations, so it only felt appropriate to limit the ideas just like Openai has limited the use of the tool.
1. Change the background
Chatgpt’s image generation is very impressive when it comes to replacing the background of your images. In the first example above, I uploaded a picture of my French bulldog, Kermit, and asked 4o to “change the background to the beach.”
Like Magic, Kermit was now on the beach, although you can tell that there have been small changes to his resemblance. For example, in the original photo he had a pimple under his mouth, which is now completely removed.
Chatgpt 4o’s image generation is very good at determining the contour of a topic and creating a realistic background to match. While I have not yet tried the Galaxy AIS version of background editing, I cannot imagine that a better AI background editor is available for free on the market.
After taking Kermit on the beach, I thought I would try to recreate his name -Aak’s iconic opening scene in the Muppet movie in 1979. In the movie, Kermit sits the frog on a log in a swamp playing banjo.
While the kermit dog can’t play Banjo, Chatgpt managed to take the source material and edit the background so Kermit was actually on a log in a swamp. Pretty cool!
2. Use a reference to generate a new image
Chatgpt 4o’s image generation is also very good at using a source image to create everything you can imagine.
After fed the AI tool more pictures of my dog I asked “Can you imagine a French bulldog running on a skateboard while you were dressed like a frog?”
After waiting for 20 seconds, yes, the photo generation can be pretty slow, I had an excellent picture of a French bulldog that looks like my boy Kermit in a seed costume running on a skateboard.
Eagle-eyed readers will note that his hindquarters have only three digits, but I assume that chatgpt thought that dog costume should emulate an amphibious instead of having enough space to be comfortable to the mammal inside.
Unfortunately for chatgpt, a seed has 18 toes completely … 10 on the back and eight front.
3. Change the mood
Last but not least, I decided to upload a picture of Kermit in a cow costume. Why does he have a cow costume? You might be asking. For the purpose of this article, I needed a picture where he is clearly a little muted.
You can see that I live in Scotland so Kermit needs a fleece to stay warm in winter. Unfortunately for him he hates wearing a fleece. That said, Chatgpt’s new photo generation tools can help with it, so I asked AI to “make this dog happy.”
The result here is Bisarr because it takes everything from the previous picture and recreates it perfectly, just with a smiling dog with his tongue out.
I would argue that a French bulldog always looks miserable, and a tongue sticking out like this would actually mean that it is thirsty. But AI considers this a happy dog, and to be fair, it does not have a very good job as a re -creation of the picture with the mood departments I asked for.
Try even chatgpt image generation
So there you have it, Chatgpt’s image generation is now free for everyone to try, and it is capable of some great photo editing.
However, the photo limits are pretty annoying as I was only able to generate three photos without loading my paid chatgpt plus work account.
I also experienced upload restrictions where Chatgpt stopped letting me add source material to edit after delivering two images.
So it’s worth noting that chatgpt image generation is very powerful, but at the free level you have to be patient as you quickly reach a daily limit.
