Chiefs Catch Break on crucial games in the 1st half in the AFC Championship; fans wonder if the judges got the right

Kansas City Chiefs received a positive call late in the first half of the AFC Championship against Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

On 3rd and 5. With 3:13 back in the second quarter, Patrick Mahomes scrambled and found just enough space to throw a ball up to Xavier Worthy. Rookie-Wide Receiver and Bills Safety Cole Bishop both jumped after the ball. It looked like Bishop might have had the ball while he was in the air, but Worthy managed to get his arm around it as they got down the ground.

The officials ruled that Worthy had completed the catch and it was Chiefs’ ball instead of an interception for Bills. Buffalo was also called a team penalty, so the ball was unlikely to have gone back to them.

Bill’s head coach Sean McDermott challenged whether it was a complete catch. The replay seemed to show that the tip of the football hit the ground. But still, the play was convicted as a catch.

A few games later, Chiefs scored on a Patrick Mahomes Touchdown race. Kansas City had a 21-10 lead.

NFL fans were quick to point out that the dubious call went in favor of Chiefs.

NFL officials’ alleged favor of Chiefs was in the spotlight on questionable calls in their divisional round over Houston Texans.

Mahomes were asked about the alleged favor of the week.

“I don’t feel like that,” he said. “… I’m just trying to play football at the end of the day. The judges do their best to call the game so fair and properly as best they can.

“For me it is to go out, play hard, try to do what I can to win the football game and then live with the results based on my efforts and how I play the game, and that’s what we preach here in Kansas City.”
