Kansas City Chiefs’ reign over AFC has taken a serious hit throughout the first five weeks of the 2025 season.
NFL fans are used to see Chiefs magically pull out victories in the final seconds of games or absolutely dominate their opponents. Kansas City gave fans a glimpse of it with victories over New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens this season, but their three losses have opened the door for criticism from almost any angle.

Chiefs was on the field for a blowout victory over Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night as they jumped out to a 14-0 lead. But Jaguars scratched and itched back in the game thanks to a Devin Lloyd 99-Yard eavesdropping back for a touchdown, and Trevor Lawrence stumbled into the end zone of the game-winning touchdown.
Patrick Mahomes tried to get hold of the reality that Chiefs face early in the season.
“It’s just talking about the whole season,” he said of the mistake and sanctions that have contributed to their fight. “I want to have the guys, and we have executed at certain points in the game and looked really good, and then we crushed ourselves with sanctions and mistakes and cuts and fumbles or whatever it is.

“It’s just that we’ve done it for ourselves all year round. It’s been a guy here or there, and in this league it’s so close that these change games. We had to do better. We’ve already lost too many games. We got to find a way to be better as a team and get together and play better for the rest of the season.”
When Mahomes took over as the team’s starting quarterback, most losses that Chiefs suffered in a season, six in 2023. But they won the Super Bowl that year.
Mahomes has 1,257 passing yards, eight touchdown passes and two intercepts.
