Travis Kelce entered this season surrounded by uncertainty. The 35-year-old was facing questions about whether Kansas City Chiefs loss to Philadelphia Eagles would be the last time he laced his NFL bricks.

Kelce eventually decided to continue playing the game he loves.

“I will definitely come back. Will try to get into the best shape I’ve been this season and come back to the mountain top,” Kelce wrote in a text message to Pat McAfee, which the ESPN host read during his show. “Got a really bad taste in my mouth with how I played in the last game and with how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that !!!!”

This week, Kelce stated that although he may have briefly gone away, he never considered strongly withdrawing.

“I love football. I don’t think I was really thinking about it so much,” Kelce told the overall media on Wednesday at Chiefs MiniCamp. “… I love getting into work every single day. It wasn’t very hard for me. I know I’m getting older, but at the same time I still feel like I have a lot I can prove in this league. When it said, it really wasn’t that hard a decision for me.”

Kelce finished the Super Bowl loss with four receptions in 39 yards. The tight end expressed regrets about his forgetful view in the game and told journalists that he “felt that I failed my guys.” But added that he “really didn’t feel it was my last game.”

Chiefs have played in the last three Super Bowls and won two. Kelce confirmed his desire to hoist the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy again at the end of the upcoming season.

Something less than another championship would be a failure in Kelce’s eyes. “It’s the only way I decide whether it’s a successful (season) or not,” he said. “That’s just how I’m cable now.”

Kelce came under the 1,000-yard who received the brand last season. He ended the regular season with 823 yards.

Kelce said he will worry about his playing future after the 2025 season. Meanwhile, he stays focused on trying to help chiefs to be the last team that stands in next February.

“I got a year on this contract, I know, and we’re trying to find out for next year,” Kelce said. “The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself ever playing elsewhere. We’ll tackle it down the road when time is in, but right now I’m focused on winning a championship this year.”
