China Laud Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the midst of Iran-Israel tensions

China praised Pakistan’s proactive and positive role on Tuesday in pursuing regional peace, especially through diplomatic channels, including the United Nations Security Council, in the midst of increased tensions following the recent Iran-Israel conflict.

On Sunday, the UN Security Council held an emergency session in which China, Russia and Pakistan jointly called for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in the Middle East.

Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, and the two leaders discussed the developing regional security situation and issues of mutual interest.

During the meeting, Chinese envoy Pakistan’s consistent efforts on international forums praised a peaceful decision on regional challenges and emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister also met separately with the ambassadors of Saudi -Arabia and Qatar to discuss the rapidly worsening the Middle East situation, especially in the wake of Iran’s missile strike in the United States’ Al Udid Air Base in Qatar.

The missile attack made late Monday night came in the midst of Iran’s promises to retaliate for the latest US air strikes on its nuclear facilities.

Shehbaz confirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the people of Saudi -Arabia and Qatar and emphasized that diplomacy remained the only way to lasting peace in the region.

Ambassador Jiang also briefed Shehbaz on various dimensions of Pakistan-China Bilateral cooperation and informed him that preparations were already underway to ensure success with Shehbaz’s upcoming visit to China, scheduled until the end of August 2025.

PM Shehbaz expanded his warm greeting and good wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

He expressed his sincere best wishes for the successful possession of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit and recognized the ongoing consultations between the two countries regarding his participation in the event.

In a memories of the historic, deeply rooted and iron-clad “All Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between Pakistan and China confirmed Shehbaz Islamabad’s regular commitment to working closely with Beijing on the timely and effective implementation of key projects under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

He highlighted several priority initiatives, including Main Line-1 (ML-I) Railway Upgrade, Change of Karakoram Highway (KKH), the operationalization of Gwadar Port and expanded cooperation in agriculture, industrial development and the IT sector.

The Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s deep appreciation of China’s long -standing economic and financial support and said that Peking’s help had helped to stabilize Pakistan’s economy and contributed to improving the country’s macroeconomic view. This support, he noted, was crucial to achieving the government’s wider socio -economic development agenda.

In response, Ambassador Jiang China’s commitment to his strategic partnership with Pakistan confirmed and repeated Peking’s support for regional peace, stability and deeper economic integration.

In a separate development, the Foreign Office on Tuesday released a statement that expressed Pakistan’s deep concern about the growing regional tensions.

It condemned severe violations of the principle of respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity for all nations and urged all sides to comply with international law and exercise restraint.

The declaration also reiterated Pakistan’s consistent position that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving conflicts and called for immediate steps to step down tension to avoid further destabilization in the region.
