Rawalpindi:

Significant security lapses Rawalpindi -District Courts to the Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider’s visit today. In front of his arrival. All four review gates installed in court turned out to be non-functional that looked like only showpieces.

Out of 77 closed-circuit TV cameras turned out to be out of service, while the recordings from the remaining cameras were blurred and largely unidentifiable.

Metal detectors delivered to security staff at retention points also proved to be completely ineffective and for viewing purposes only. A detailed report on these security deficiencies has already been submitted to Rawalpindi -Vice Commissioner (DC), Hasan Waqar Cheema.

Due to these critical malfunctions in surveillance systems, review gates and metal detectors, police have implemented strict security measures for the Governor’s visit. Additional police staff have been deployed and temporary one-day restrictions have been placed on parking motorcycles by lawyers and their clients ahead of the Quaid-E-Azam Hall, near the main course.

Furthermore, public movement and standing between the main gate and the district bar office are also prohibited. A Bomb Disposal Unit has been set on high alarm.

During the ceremony, the District Bar Association is expected to formally present a report to the governor who highlights the deteriorating security infrastructure for the district courts. The current CCTV cameras were installed five to six years ago and have gradually fallen into counterfeit due to lack of maintenance. Their dysfunction along with the defective review gates and metal detectors has made the premises a potential security threat for judges, lawyers, officials and litigation.

Despite official restrictions, professional beggars continue to logo around the courts.
