- Google uses AI to protect against fraud in Chrome, Search and Android
- AI can analyze and distill data to detect brand new scam
- Google claims that it already sees positive results from the change
If there’s one thing you learn while reviewing the Internet, it’s that scams are everywhere. Even the most eagle -island experts can become a victim, with countless sums of money lost to these dishonest schemes every year.
However, this does not mean that the situation is hopeless and Google is now taking the fight to scammers using artificial intelligence (AI). According to a recent blog post from the company, there are three areas where Google uses AI against scams: Chrome, Google Search and Android.
In Chrome, Google implements its Gemini Nano On-Device Large Language Model (LLM) to provide an improved protection mode to users. Google says this “keeps users twice as secure against phishing and other scams versus our standard protection mode.”
AI does this by distilling its knowledge of scams to analyze suspicious sites and warn users of threats, even if the dangers are new and have not been seen before.
As for searching, Google says AI “helps us discover and block hundreds of millions of scammy results every day,” with 20 times as many fraudulent pages that get caught than before Google enrolled help from AI.
Google claims that this approach has reduced airline -related scams that appear on search by up to 80%, for example.
AI on Android
While many of these improvements are cross-platform changes that are seen on different devices, there are also some Android-exclusive adjustments that use AI for good use against fraud.
One example is website messages on Android phones. If you have allowed a scam -up to send you messages (without realizing it is a scam), you may be blocked by fake warnings trying to steal your data. In cases, Google has just launched AI-driven warnings specifically for Chrome on Android.
When a suspicious message is discovered, Chrome on Android will warn you that the alarm may be a scam. You can then turn off messages from that site or see the alarm itself, at what time you will again be able to unsubscribe or always allow the alarms if you do not think they are dishonest.
There will also be improvements to Google messages and phone by Google. These continuously detects scams that start innocently but develops rapidly into dangerous situations, which can be difficult for traditional scam protection methods to spot.
Whichever device you are using, it seems that you could take advantage of Google’s recent roll -out of AI to fight against scams. With bad actors constantly improving their tactics, AI’s ability to quickly analyze huge data of data can spare you from the scammers.
