Back in March, we reported Chromecasts getting a free update to Android 14-and they were for a while until Google drew over-the-air update. But now the update is back! Back! BACK!
There are two versions of the update: a small one for anyone who downloaded the initial Android 14 update before it was drawn, and a larger one for anyone who did not do and whose device is still running Android 12.
Chromecast with Google TV and Android 14: What’s New?
The update includes Security Patch in January 2025; Find my external and customizable button to Google TV Streamer Voice Remote; Different bug fixes; and system optimizations. But the most important thing is that it updates the operating system from Android 12 to Android 14.
According to Google, it means “a snapper, more responsive TV experience”.
The previous version of the update was drawn in the middle of reports that external drives, some USB devices and some Ethernet adapters did not work properly, but judging by Reddit’s R/Chromecast Sureddit reports, the new update does not cause similar -although some users still meet some smaller glitches.
The new Android 14 update is rolled out to Chromecast with Google TV (4K) users now.
