CII -debates that deserve

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday clarified that the question of retention of tax on cash withdrawals and transfers from banks remained during its treatment and that the consultation would continue at the next meeting. CII in his 342 meeting, President of his Chairman Allama Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain naeemi, expressed conditional support for the establishment of human milk banks, provided that these were created under strict conditions and protection measures. Previously, it was stated that CII had declared the withholding tax on cash withdrawals and transfers from banks to be an excess and non-Islamic. Later, however, it clarified that what had been shared earlier simply reflected the preliminary opinions of some members. CII noted that although some members expressed concern that the tax was excessive and non-Islamic, but these were individual views. It reiterated that the topic remained during review and that a final attitude would only be taken after thorough debate and consultation. During the session, the Council reviewed several legislative and religious issues. One of the biggest discussions centered on the proposed amendment on DIYAT (blood money). CII opposed the proposed changes. The meeting emphasized that the traditional Sharia-Ordinated standards gold, silver and camel shell remain intact. Members pointed out that the bill was trying to remove silver as a measure and suggested a non-sharia amount of gold that they did not accept. Another item on the agenda was the use of insulin made with ingredients derived from pigs. CII observed that when insulin made with halal ingredients was already available, there was no reason for using the variant made with pig dives. Members concluded that preference should always be given to halal alternatives when available. The meeting expressed reservations by a Supreme Court’s two-members Bench judgment on September 11, which determined that a woman was divorced before the implementation of the marriage was entitled to IDDAT (waiting) and Nafaqah (maintenance) and said such a prevailing race as opposed to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
