A group of civil society members have also challenged the 26th constitutional amendment that brought about some major changes in the country’s legal system. The petition filed through lawyer Faisal Siddiqi claims that the amendment undermines essential features of the constitution by compromising the independence of the judiciary and the trichotomy of power. It contends that the petition cannot be heard by the Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court formed in the light of the amendment as "no one can be a judge in his own case".
