Islamabad:
PTI chairman Gohar Ali Khan has confirmed that Chief Justice of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, advised the former reigning party to “operate within the system” and not to resort to boycott’s policy.
Gohar was part of a PTI delegation that met with Justice Afridi on Friday. The meeting took place a few days after CJ met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
During the meeting, the party had conveyed to Justice Afridi that it did not recognize the 26th constitutional amendment – the actual amendment that paved the way for Justice Afridi’s appointment as the top judge – and called him to abstain from “judicial packing”.
The delegation had also called on Chief Justice to “put your house in order” and secure the rule of law and the constitution in the country and claim that the justice system had been reduced to a “criminal instrument” under his guard, and that was his responsibility to fix it.
In response to a question about the discussions that took place during the rare interaction, Gohar admitted that CJ advised them to “operate within the system.”
“We met with Chief Justice yesterday. Our charges against the government are quite extensive. We are also not very pleased with the judiciary.
“During the meeting, we presented our concerns about the legal attitude. Treating PTI in this way is neither fair for democracy nor to the rule of law,” he said while talking to journalists at the Islamabad District Courts.
Barrister Gohar said a delegation of a beginning alliance of opposition parties has gone to Karachi.
“We form an alliance with all the opposition parties. The movement aims to maintain the constitution and prevent there from voting. Political parties have their own manifestations and internal processes, which is why such movements take time,” he said.
He said PTI had begun negotiations with the PML-N government with an open heart in the hope of a decision through dialogue. However, the government did not take it seriously and acted quickly.
In response to a question about fire fire politician Sher Afzal Marwat, who was recently expelled from PTI, Gohar Ali Khan said it was an internal party case. “We follow a proper process when someone violates party discipline,” he said.
The PTI chairman said the party’s founder Imran Khan will make a decision about those who left the party in the wake of a government’s crash after May 9, 2023. “Akbar’s Babar also claims to be part of the party, but that’s his personal Perception.
To a question of IMRAN’s open letters, which he recently wrote to Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir, he said letters dealt with serious concerns about preventing a gap between the military and the people. “PTI’s internal affairs are perfectly fine and there is no forward block within the party,” he added.
