CJP Afridi meets with the IMF delegation to discuss court reforms

A six-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) met with Chief Justice Yahya Afridi at the Supreme Court in Pakistan, Express News reported Tuesday.

According to sources, the meeting focused on Pakistan’s legal system and potential reforms. Chief Justice briefed the IMF team of ongoing legal improvements and government challenges.

Meanwhile, the opposition leader for the National Assembly Omar Ayub had also announced that his party will present concerns about the parliamentary elections in 2024 and the 26th constitutional change before the IMF delegation.

“We will present the entire choice of election before the IMF delegation,” Ayub said. “We will also highlight the questions caused by the 26th amendment,” he said.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and CEO (MD) for the IMF, Kristalina Georgieva, meet in Dubai three weeks ahead of the expected March 3, start of review interviews for $ 1 billion other loan -tranche.

The meeting is ahead of a crucial review for the next $ 1 billion loan tranches.

Government and diplomatic sources told The Express Pakinomist that the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the world’s government’s summit in Dubai. Pakistan has requested the meeting.

This will be the third meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and Georgieva in the last 10 months. The prime minister on Monday traveled to a two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the summit.
