CJP form selection for filling in key posts

The Chief Justice has formed separate committees comprising senior judges and the Advocate General of Pakistan (AGP) to oversee appointments to key positions in the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP), the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) and the Supreme Judicial judicial judicial council (SJC).

According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday, the committee for the selection of the Secretary of the LJCP is headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and includes Justice Ayesha Malik and Justice Shahid Waheed.

The panel will interview the candidates nominated by the provincial chief secretaries.

Similarly, the committee for selection of the JCP secretary comprises of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aminuddin Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail and AGP.

A committee consisting of Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar and AGP will interview candidates for the post of SJC Secretary.

These committees will interview the candidates, including serving and retired district and sessions, dominated by the chief justice of the five high courts and chief secretaries of the provinces.

The purpose of forming these committees is “to maintain transparency and meritocracy in agreements”.

According to the statement, CJ Afridi has undertaken transformative reforms to modernize the judiciary and establish it as a model institution that upholds fairness, transparency and accessibility to meet standards of judicial expertise and ensure that the judicial system remains citizen-focused and responsive to the litigants’ needs .

“Advanced information technology systems have been integrated to increase judicial efficiency, including the E-Associdavit system that streamlines filing processes, reduces delays and ensures transparency, and a case management system that enables litigants and lawyers to instantly access certified case copies, eliminating traditional delays with delays.”
