- Cloudflare reportedly blocks some browsers from accessing some sites
- Pale Moon, Falkon, Seamonkey and even Firefox is affected, users claim
- It is unclear if a more permanent solution is coming
Cloudflare has admitted that its browser detection system blocks some users’ access to websites if they use lesser -known web browsers.
Affected browsers include Pale Moon, Falkon and Seamonkey as well as some versions of more popular offers such as Firefox 115 ESR.
The problem is caused by CloudFlore’s security system that blocks browsers, it does not recognize from certain places (including embarrassing, its own social site) potential confusion of privacy conscious users for bots.
Cloudflare continues to block with less common browsers
Users who encounter the problem have no direct way of reporting it except through cloudflare forums, but it seems that they are not actively monitored. In addition, it is hardly a new problem with similar reports going back to 2015.
Some affected browsers have tried solutions, but either CloudFlore’s system continues to reintroduce the problem or users encounter various problems.
E.g. Reads Public Notes to Pale Moon V33.6.0.1: “This is an additional update to mitigate as much of cloudflare problems leading to browser hanging and memory problems as possible on the web browersid.” However, the efforts to bypass CloudFlore’s security measures are often
A user on the hacker news wire explained how Cloudflare does is like “like kicking anyone who wears dark sunglasses out of a physical store” – though burglaries may want to hide their faces, there are endless reasons for wanting to wear sunglasses and there are endless reasons why internet users want to protect their anonymity.
It is not only cloudflare customers that are limited from certain areas of the Internet. Another commentator wrote “Suppliers that block iCloud Relay are the worst … to block IP addresses are o-ver.”
Techradar Pro has asked Cloudflare to comment on the matter and to share his plans for corrections, but we did not receive an immediate answer.
