Lahore: Punjab Minister Maryam Nawaz visited the Ravi River at Shahdara on Thursday, where she boarded a boat to inspect the flood situation.

Later, when she spoke to the media after visiting the flood situation in Shahdara, she said the province has experienced severe and continuous rainfall in recent weeks, which led to dangerous water levels in all three major rivers.

“I’ve never seen so much water in the Ravi River. Our rivers were under enormous pressure. Had we [Punjab govt] Not prepared in time the damage could have been disastrous. “

She also praised the efforts of local administration and rescue teams and said that no life was lost due to administrative negligence.

Over 50,000 people and a large number of livestock have been moved to safer areas, she added.

The Punjab Minister of Chief Repeated his government’s commitment to relief and return and said her government would reach any affected person and secure compensation for loss.

“Water is a blessing, but without proper storage systems and drainage planning, we are vulnerable … I have instructed all departments to present specific programs on how we can store and control flooding water in the future,” she added.

12 killed in Punjab floods

Meanwhile, Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said at least 12 people have lost their lives because of the ongoing flood situation in the province.

When she talked to the media, she said no deaths occurred due to the negligence of the Punjab government or rescue agencies, saying that rescue operations – especially via BYRIG – are active in progress.

She also said that the surveillance effort is going on and about six to seven people have been rescued from waste.

“Food is delivered at emergency camps and nearly 200,000 livestock has moved to safe places with their owners. Citizens are encouraged to avoid flooding areas and not approach water channels for selfies or photos,” she added.

Punjab Senior Minister praised the tireless efforts of rescue and administrative teams and said many staff have worked for three to five days without sleep.

She also acknowledged the support of the media and the presence of elected officials and ministers in the affected areas.
