Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has repeated that the protection of minority’s life and property is a highest priority for her government and calls it a “red line” that will be protected at all costs.
In her message on the occasion of the Hindu Festival of Holi, she emphasized the importance of the apartment as a symbol of love, peace and fraternity, Express News reported.
She noted that Pakistan is a harmonious mix of different religious communities, all of which enjoy equal rights and opportunities.
Maryam Nawaz further declared that Punjab, the SUFIS country, is obliged to promote an environment of love, tolerance and mutual respect, where every citizen, regardless of their religion, feels safe and authorized.
The government is taking practical steps to ensure the welfare of minority communities and provides equal access to education, health, employment and other important services.
She emphasized that the introduction of the minority card is an important initiative to support financially disadvantaged members of the minority community. In addition, the provincial government has increased grants for religious festivals and cultural parties and awarded additional funds for minority welfare programs.
Punjab’s government is also working to celebrate religious and cultural festivals at the official level, ensuring that the rights and traditions of all communities are honored.
Earlier this year, Punjab Chief Minister increased the number of minority cards to those issued in the province to 75,000 from 50,000.
Launch of Pakistan’s first Chief Minister Minority Card in a ceremony that women and men participate in Hindu, Sikh, Christians and other communities, she said, “It is our responsibility to protect the minority communities and improve their lives. I fulfill my duty to give the minorities with full responsibility.”
She added, “We will hinder the path for those who jeopardize the life and property of minority society and property with an iron hand. Minorities also have an equal role in the development of Pakistan. Every time there is any dangerous situation for the minorities, I monitor myself and monitor what minorities are a symbol of pride for us.” She distributed the cards and observed the transaction process via ATM for a recipient.
Provincial Minority Minister Ramesh Singh Arora expressed gratitude to CM in the Punjabi language.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said, “The Punjab government has launched the minority card for well-being for our sisters, brothers, elders and children, so they should realize that they are also Pakistanis and Punjabis. I do not make a political statement, but everyone should realize that the minorities are also so much a part of our loved home as other Pakistanis.
She added, “I’m glad to see that the rightful owners are happy to receive their right as all religions are united in a strong bond.”
She said messages had been received about crimes from all over the world in the appointment of the first Sikh minister of the Punjab Cabinet. She added, “My father Muhammad Nawaz Sharif always forbade me to use the word minority for societies. They may be fewer in number but are no less than anyone with regard to patriotism and humanity. I find it necessary to attend any festivity of Sikh, Hindu and Christian communities.”
The minister said that all commissioners and DCs had been instructed to decorate the worship sites and neighborhoods of minorities for any religious festival, including Holi and Easter.
She said the PML-N government had increased the budget for the minority department.
She said 50,000 families in Punjab would receive RS10,500 after every three months and that the amount would increase in the coming years, while the number of recipient households would be wandered to 75,000.
She added that the RS10,500 was a lean quantity, but a token gift on behalf of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Punjab government. She said the subsidy issued on the threshold of minority festivals had been increased from RS10,000 to RS15,000.
“Neighborhoods and religious places in the minority communities are also being developed. A cemetery for the Christian community will be ready in a few months. The annual development budget for the minority communities has been increased by 60 percent,” she added.
Bishop Nadeem Kamran, Sardar Saranjit Singh and Pandit Lal prayed on the occasion.
