Punjab’s chief minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has inaugurated the province’s first fully electric bus connection in Lahore, the provincial capital. The new fleet consists of buses with a capacity of 30 seats and the ability to carry 80 passengers.
The electrical buses are equipped with modern facilities, including GPS tracking, Wi-Fi, USB ports and ramps for people with disabilities.
In an attempt to improve safety, antislip floors are installed and cameras are placed to prevent harassment.
To ensure efficiency, nine specialized charging stations have been created and each bus will be able to cover a distance of 250 kilometers on full charge.
A digital wallet and card system will also be introduced to facilitate cashless travel. The electric bus connection originally works on a 21 km route from the railway station to Green Town.
In mid -February, the service starts with buses running every 9 minutes and 42 modern bus houses to be installed. The service is expected to accommodate 17,000 passengers daily.
The main minister also reviewed plans for the installation of solar fans, water cooler and surveillance cameras at bus stations and emphasized special training for 70 bus drivers.
In addition, discussions were held about the introduction of electrical taxis in Punjab.
