Field Marshal Coas General Asim Munir was honored with ‘Baton of Field Marshal’ in a special ceremony held at Aiwan-E-Sadr on Thursday.
The ceremony participated in Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, members of the federal cabinet, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan People’s Party President Bilawal Bhutto, governors and chief ministers for all provinces and diplomats from different countries.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz jointly awarded the ‘Field Marshal of the Relay’ at Coas Munir in recognition of his strategic leadership and contribution to the national defense.
PM, while approaching the ceremony, said, “Today is a historic and proud day. We recognize our hero’s services and today’s event is part of the ongoing recognition.”
He added, “The military leadership has achieved a remarkable victory against the enemy. I appreciate the leadership of Field Marshal. Under his command, the military leadership secured a historical triumph.”

He also said, “Success was achieved in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos under Fieldmarshalen’s leadership. In addition, Field Marskalk plays a key role in maintaining coordination between military and political leadership.”
The federal cabinet had approved the promotion of Coas Munir for rank as a field marshal on Tuesday.
The decision was made during a high -level cabinet meeting that was chairman of the Prime Minister, where ministers praised success with Operation Bunyanum Mursoos and called it a historic victory that prevented Indian aggression and protected national sovereignty.
Prime Minister praised Coas Munir for demonstrating “extraordinary military leadership, bravery and strategic command” and in recognition of his gallant defense of the homeland and leadership that secured Pakistan’s sovereignty, approved the cabinet PM Shehbaz’s recommendation to promote General Asim Munir to the rank of field ants.
