Cognizant Classic: Jake Knapp puts up Stellar 59

Jake Knapp made the PGA National look like your average municipal course on Thursday.

The 30-year-old shot a 12-Under, bogey-free 59 in the first round of Cognizant Classic-earlier known as the Honda Classic.

He temporarily came down to the ground, mating for the next three, but he then birded six of his next seven. He again stabbed a tee shot in four meters on couple-three ninth, and the 15th, another par 3, he drilled a birdie-putt from over 31 meters away.

Through 15 holes, Knapp 11 was under Pari, but he would pair his next two holes and needed a birdie on par-five 18. To break 60.

It was no problem. After a 335-yard drive he hit the green from approx. 200 meters out. He narrowly missed an Eagle putt that would have been just the other 58 in PGA Tour History, but it’s the 15th 59 ever on tour.

It is also the sixth time in the PGA story that someone has gone 12-Under in a round where he joins Scottie Scheffler, Jim Furyk (twice), Paul Gyydos and Hayden are jumping.

It was 29 on the front and a 30 on the back of the button.

Knapp reached each par-5 in two shots and he knocked almost 70 meters worth Birdie Putts on par-3s and 4s. Then he drilled all six of his putts from between 6 and 12 feet on the day.

It is correctly assumed that the Knapp is a leader in the clubhouse at the moment, with three others closest to him at eight o’clock.

Knapp has a PGA Tour victory under his belt – Mexico Open in 2024, a year and a day to his 59; He competed in his first three majors last year, ending the T55 on Masters and missing the clip on both the PGA Championship and the US Open.

But maybe this can be a self -amplifier amplifier.
