College Football News: Georgia Tech Stuns Clemson with game winning field goals

Georgia Tech pulled a fire exercise to end his 24-21 victory over No. 12 Clemson on Saturday at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech had third-and-4 with 25 seconds left on the clock on Clemson 39 with the game tied 21-21 in the fourth quarter. They decided to run a quarterback -up with Haynes King, despite having no timeouts left.

King won two meters and was stopped in borders as the clock ticked. The Georgia Tech violation drove off the field as the play ended and the yellow jackets’ special team unit drove into the field to try to convert a career-long 55-yard field target attempts from Kicker Aidan Birr before the clock expired.

Birr’s previous career long was 51 yards, but it didn’t matter. Despite rushing into the field and facing extra distance, they got snap in time, and Birr drilled the kick to pull off the disturbance.

Birr’s kick looked like it should be wide just before tunneling back inside the vertical. As the kick went through, fans began to throw on the field to celebrate the upset victory.

King was excellent in the victory when he finished 19 out of 27 passes in 216 yards while hurried 25 times in 103 yards and a touchdown.

Clemson Quarterback Cade Klubnik fought. He finished 15 of 26 passes in 207 yards for a touchdown and an eavesdropping while driving in 62 yards and a touchdown, but also lost a fumble.

Klubnik’s eavesdropping came deep in the yellow jackets’ red zone, while his fumble led to a Georgia Tech field goal.

It is already Clemson’s second loss of the year and releases the tigers to 1-2. They seem to turn things against Syracuse next week.

Georgia Tech improved to 3-0 with the victory and seems to continue its strong start at home against Temple next week.
