Collin Morikawa lashes out on reporter at press conference: ‘Don’t put me down’

Two-time great champion Collin Morikawa had a contentious conversation with a reporter during a press conference ahead of Rocket Classic on Wednesday.

Morikawa, 28, questioned a quote that Golfweek -Reporter Adam Schupak deployed his story of Morikawa’s recent Caddy change.

Schupak wrote a story covering Morikawa’s Caddy change, saying it was unclear who Morikawa wanted as his caddy permanently in the future. Schupak included this quote from Morikawa in history.

“Ask me what you want at my press conference later. I am with my pro-am partners now,” the quantity quupak was used from Morikawa in his story.

When Schupak asked Morikawa at the press conference about who is going to Caddy for him at the British Open, the golfer used the question to take the question with Schupak’s use of his quote in history.

“I don’t want to tell you how to do your job; you can write what you want. This is America. But don’t put me down like that because it’s two and a half hours, Adam.”

Schupak said he thought he gave Morikawa credit because he noticed that Morikawa was focused on his pro-am partners. However, Morikawa told Schupak that this is not how he read it.

“Ok, we can all read it very differently. That’s not how I read it,” Morikawa said.

“But I’m just saying, I think there’s a perspective where people can read it like that. So I just want to leave it. We knew I would have media in two and a half hours. I’m on the first tee to meet my pro-am partners when they start.”

After Morikawa commented on the press conference, Schupak Morikawa deleted the original quote and updated the story with a new quote.

This is not the first time Morikawa has fluffed feathers with the media this season as his comments on Masters made waves.

Morikawa is currently tied to 35. At Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club as three during pairs for the day. At this point, my Woo Lee led the tournament after he shot nine under par in the first round.
