Rawalpindi:
An assistant sub -inspector was suspended for not taking steps to a citizen’s complaint in an open court held by Rawalpindi CPO. Khalid Hamdani held an open court (Khuli Kachehri) in New Town Circle, where he suspended Asi Shehzad Ahmed from New Town Police Station so as not to intervene in a citizen’s complaint and visit offices again and again.
During the open hearing held for the citizens of New Town and Sadiqabad Police Stations’ jurisdictions, CPO KPO Khalid Hamdani listened to various complaints and issued a number of orders to be implemented by police. Most notably, he ordered the department’s action against Asi Shehzad Ahmed from New Town Police Station.
Among other things, he addressed the problem of rising crime by stating that more criminal gangs have been traced, but street crime is still a challenge that they will soon overcome. He emphasized that drug dealers are also on the police radar and promised that the police would not rest until the drug trafficking is eradicated.
The use of microphones and speakers was limited during the consultation. Only the CPO Rawalpindi, the officers on stage and the complaints that presented their cases could hear each other. This unusual arrangement surprised the participants. The open court had been organized in a marriage hall and therefore asked many questions for participants who tried to get their complaints heard.
Only those sitting near CPO on stage could present their complaints, while others could not hear what was being discussed. Some participants noticed that an open court should be fully accessible to everyone so that all complaints and their decisions could be heard open. They suggested that if privacy was a concern for certain individuals, the microphones and speakers could have been turned off for specific cases instead of completely limiting them.
Many citizens, including women and families, appeared to the open court. Senior police officers, including SP headquarters Sardar Babar Mumtaz, SP Rawal, DSP New Town Abid Khan, Shos from both stations and other relevant police officers were present during the hearing.
At the beginning of the session, CPO Hamdani approached the participants and highlighted the significant efforts to limit crimes such as robberies and vehicle theft in Rawal Pindi. However, he acknowledged that more work is needed to tackle street crime.
He mentioned that New Town and Sadiqabad police stations are located at the core of the city, and he had appointed Shos based on profits to earn the public effectively. He also pointed out police efforts against drug trafficking in areas such as Shakrial, Pandora and Double Road, emphasizing that the fight against drugs will continue until it is complete extinction.
He also noted the improvements made to police stations, especially through the creation of front tables, but emphasized the need for further improvement. He assured that the highest resources had been allocated to New Town and Sadiqabad police stations, which did not leave room for shortcomings.
Under the open court, CPO Rawalpindi personally listened to individual complaints and instructed relevant officers for immediate action. A significant number of women also presented their problems.
After a citizen’s complaint about passivity on their application, CPO Hamdani immediately suspended Asi Shehzad from New Town Police Station and ordered departmental treatment against him.
