- Compal Adapt X Modular Laptop Computer Reduces Waste with Fully Interchangable Components
- Adapt X develops rather than slides in obsolescence
- Supports modular AI and a functional node
Taiwanese manufacturer Compal Electronics has revealed a concept unit, ADACT X, a modular business -bearable computer designed to expand the device’s lifetime and reduce electronic waste.
Adapt X has 14-inch and 16-inch screens, equipped with Type-C interfaces and a functional node that extends input and output settings through modular AI devices.
It also comes with a removable secondary screen that can act as a business monitoring, located either flat for seamless multitasking or elevated to an expanded work area.
Modular design for extended applicability
Developed as a flexible and customized modular AI alternative in the same way as Framework’s products, Adapt X combines metallic aesthetics with sustainability and serves an IF Design Award for 2025.
Users can exchange or upgrade components independently and reduce upgrade frequency and cut costs. The ultra-thin and removable keyboard offers a tablet-like experience.
Meanwhile, the removable additional screen is useful for controlling multiple Windows simultaneously, making Adapt X a useful laptop for programming and one of the best laptops for trading.
If fully realized, this approach could create a recyclable, upgradable laptop with minimal environmental impact that suggests a future where ‘eternal’ devices that develop with users are mainstream.
