Cricket, drama stop Google searches in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

Cricket remained the most dominant entertainment topic in Pakistan, while local TV dramas also emerged as a major focus of public interest, according to a Google report released on Monday.

The report, titled “Year in Search 2025”, provides a snapshot of what captivated Pakistani users online throughout the year, from sports and entertainment to governance, education and real-world crises.

According to the report, Pakistanis increasingly relied on Google Search to access timely information about pressing daily issues, including an increase in searches related to flooding in Karachi and rising flood risk near the Chenab River.

Users actively searched for information on government initiatives such as the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry, ‘Asaan Karobar Card’ and the Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme 2025.

Similarly, education updates, including results and announcements from the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and other examining bodies, were among the most searched topics.

Searches for gold prices and international developments, particularly news related to Iran, were also prominent as Pakistanis sought to stay informed about global and economic developments.

Also, Pakistani users turned heavily to local dramas for entertainment, with storylines and performances closely followed throughout the year.
