Ronaldo signed the most lucrative contract extension in sports history with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Nassr in June, becoming the first billionaire footballer.

“It was my goal to reach that number,” Ronaldo told Morgan of achieving the financial feat in the portion of the interview that has been published. “I’m not obsessed with the money, but when you get to a certain level, the money doesn’t matter anymore. But it’s always good to have more.”

The soccer star also spoke about his potential future retirement plans, claiming that he wants to invest more time in the family and that he will make his retirement decision “soon.”

“I will be prepared. It will be tough and difficult of course. I will probably cry, yes. It will be very difficult, but Piers, I have been preparing for my future since I was 25 or 26 years old. Nothing compares to the adrenaline we have to score a goal. But everything has a beginning and an end, so I will be prepared,” he said.

“I want more time for me, my family, to raise my children. I want to follow along [son] Cristiano Junior, because he is at an age where you do stupid things, normally, I did the same.

“I want to be more (of a) family person, more present.”

Ronaldo, 40, and Georgina Rodríguez, his girlfriend since 2017, announced their engagement in August. In an Instagram post, Rodriguez showed off her new, massive, oval-shaped engagement ring with a heartfelt caption in Spanish.

The soccer star praised his fiance in his interview with Morgan.

“Gio is unique. She takes care of me, which is very important. She takes care of the family, of the house, which requires a lot of work. If you want to be the opposite, I don’t want to deal with it; men can’t handle that, honestly,” he said.

“She is the person who understands me and takes care of me and my family. That’s what I’m looking for.”
