CROC ATTACK Reports whip up fear in SUKKUR

Karachi:

Sindh Wildlife Department has launched a study of reports on a crocodile attack on a woman in a channel coming from the Sukkur barrier.

According to social media posts, the alleged incident in the Saleh Pat area found along the Nara channel, where a crocodile allegedly pulled a woman into deep water. Her husband allegedly managed to save her.

After the reports, Wildlife Dept instructed his Sukkur Team to visit the site, inspect the channel section, meet the affected family, collect the medical report and treatment details and submit findings with recommendations.

A team, led by the Deputy Conservator, Sukkur Wildlife Division, and the area Wildlife Inspector Imam Bakhsh Samoon visited the emergency department at Succur Civil Hospital, but was informed that the family had left without informing the hospital staff. The department has repeatedly expressed concern about illegal settlements and cabin structures along the Nara Canal, a well -known habitat for Sindh’s original ant crocodile.

Globally, there are 18 species of crocodiles, six of them in Asia. Sindh’s ant crocodile, less and generally less aggressive than the Nile and the Saltwater species, is known to feed mainly on Karrion and becomes aggressive when its territory is penetrated.

Experts say the species prefers slowly moving waters and spends much of the day basking or in caves that survive months without food if necessary. The slow-flowing stretches and outer banks of the Nara Canal have long been an important habitat.

Previously, similar reports of deadly crocodile attacks from the area have appeared on social media, but were later found to be fake.
