Crypto Exchange CEO’s daughter, grandson targeted in Paris Kidnap attempts

The daughter and grandson of a French Crypto Exchange CEO was targeted in a failed kidnap attempt, adding the growing number of crypto-related kidnapping cases in the country, France reported 24 Tuesday.

A video that was shared on social media showed the trial where three masked men fought the woman and another person to the ground in Paris. A shop owner intervened, waving a fire extinguisher, and the striker gave up and drove off in two waiting vans. France 24 identified crypto exchange as salary.

The attack follows earlier – successful – kidnappings in the country. In January, David Ballard, a co-founder of the Crypto-Wallet Developer Ledger, was ransom after being kidnapped with his wife from their home. In May, the father of a French crypto millionaire was kidnapped and saved days later. Four suspects were arrested at the time, the BBC reported. Both men had a finger chopped off.

Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau said Wednesday that he plans to meet with French crypto entrepreneurs to discuss how to protect them after the wave of kidnappers aimed at wealthy people with crypto tape in France. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation into the attack, Reuters reported.

“These entities within the law enforcement authorities have actually been very successful in keeping some of these people to explain in these kidnapping cases,” said Chainalysis CEO Jonathan Levin on Wednesday in response to a question about worldwide kidnapping for ransom trend. “I think the message should come out there that these payments can be traced.”
