Teams launched operation after receiving intelligence reports; constable martyred in fierce gunfight
Four terrorists were killed and a police constable was martyred in a joint operation conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department and the local police in Bannu cantonment area, officials said on Thursday.
According to Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Kulachi, police and CTD teams launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports. The suspects were already located and opened fire, triggering a heavy exchange. Four terrorists were killed during the encounter, he said.

DPO Kulachi confirmed that Constable Abid Khan embraced martyrdom during the firefight. He said policemen fought with “remarkable courage” against the terrorists.
The funeral of the martyred constable was later held at Bannu Police Lines where police officials, Pakistan Army officers, family members and colleagues were present. The martyred officer was laid to rest with full official honours.
Fourteen abducted workers rescued in DI Khan
Separately, police in Dera Ismail Khan freed 14 abducted laborers during an operation in Sedu Wali area of Paharpur, officials said.
A Dera Police spokesperson said law enforcement teams cordoned off the area and launched a search operation under the supervision of DPO Dera Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada. A brief exchange of gunfire took place, after which the police successfully recovered 14 abducted workers unharmed.
DPO Sahibzada lauded the efforts of SP Paharpur, SP CTD, DSPs and other officers involved in the rescue operation and stated that the police remain vigilant to protect citizens and will not allow any group or individual to take the law into their own hands.
