- The World Leakies Adds Freedman Healthcare to his data leakage site
- The group claims to have Exfiltrated tens of thousands of files
- The company becomes silent for now
A cybercrime gang claims to have violated the Freedman Healthcare, a US-based consulting firm that helps states and health organizations to handle data and allegedly stole thousands of sensitive files.
A threat actor called World Leaks added Freedman Healthcare to his data cover site. The group is a new participant in the cybercrime space, where some say it is a rebrand of Hunters International, while others report that it is a spin-off of the notorious organization.
In any case, the group added the consulting firm to its site, but has not yet uploaded any files, most likely to try to push it to pay the demand for ransom.
Extortion as a service
The attackers claim to have stolen 42,204 files equivalent to more than 50 GB, but the nature of the stolen files is not known, nor is it the amount requested.
The company handles personal health information about millions of Americans, including sensitive data processed in Medicaid and commercial insurance requirements, state health and human services, social determinants of health data sets and health care initiatives.
Freedman Healthcare has not yet dealt with these claims, so we do not even know whether they are legitimate or not.
However, Hunters International has a relatively good track Record with remarkable previous victims, including Toyota Brazil, Nanolumen, integrated control and Frederick Wildman and Sons.
The world’s leaks apparently work on a “extortion-as-a-service” model launched in early 2025. Registered Notes Hunters International found their ransomware work too risky, especially with international law enforcement operations that actively targeted these groups. This caused them to switch from the usual double pressing tactics to extortion as a service, resulting in the creation of world sections.
The group seems to be Russian origin and is pretty active with more than 150 victims in the last year.
