According to FO, DAR plans to confirm Pakistan’s support for the Palestinian case and call for the withdrawal of all Israeli troops in Gaza at the OIC meeting.
Pakistan’s attitude remains unwavering, “reject the scandalous Israeli plan to extend full military control over Gaza and further emphasizes the urgent need for unobstructed humanitarian assistance; and calls for the restoration of the legitimate rights of Palestine”.
Pakistan has consistently expressed his support for a ceasefire. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had greeted the adoption of a decision from the United Nations Security Council and demanded immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Ambassador Asim Iftikar Ahmad, The Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the UN, contacted the General Assembly on June 17. He expressed his disappointment as a decision that demanded that an immediate truce be vetoed in unsc.
DAR plans to hold bilateral conversations on the sidelines with the most important OIC Member States during his two-day stay in Jeddah on August 25 and 26.
Gaza City in ruins
The extraordinary meeting of OIC is coming at a critical time as Israeli troops continue their offensive on the eastern and northern outskirts of Gaza. The Israeli military made a statement on Sunday and announced their troops back to Jabalia with the intention of further expansion to additional zones.
The worsening situation for Gaza weaves over the OIC meeting as the classification of the integrated food safety phase declares Gaza A Level 5, described as “catastrophic hunger”, stating that a quarter of all Palestinians in Gaza are starving. According to the Gazan Health Ministry, deaths are caused by hunger and malnutrition now 289, of which 115 are children.
Israel’s plan to take over Gaza City
On August 8, the Israeli government released a five-point plan “to defeat Hamas” and “end the war.” This plan, approved by the Israeli security cabinet, suggests a plan to take control of Gaza City. “The Israeli defense forces (IDF) will prepare to take control of Gaza City while providing humanitarian aid to the civilian population outside combat zones,” the Israeli military said.
According to Israeli media, the plan will initially focus on taking full control over Gaza City and wiping out its one million inhabitants further south. IDF plans to take control of the refugee camps located in Central Gaza and areas suspected of housing the hostages.
Islamabad has repeated Pakistan’s obligation to the Palestinian case and fully rejects Israel’s plan to occupy Gaza.
The plan has been exposed to widespread criticism from different world leaders. British Prime Minister Keir Stormer was quoted as saying, “This act will do nothing to put an end to this conflict or to help ensure the release of the hostages. It will only bring more blood emit.”
Countries such as Australia, Finland and Turkey are all against the plan.
What is OIC?
The Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was established in 1969 consisting of 47 Member States across four continents. It is the second largest global organization that only comes in second place to the United Nations. OIC works to create a unique voice for the Islamic world. OIC had prepared a decision that asked for the immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza earlier this month, which was vetoed by the UN Security Council.
OIC recognizes the ongoing genocide in Gaza and holds the Israeli state responsible for the humanitarian disaster that unfolds there.
According to the official statement, OIC “requires the immediate extensive termination of the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip and an end to the ongoing violations committed by the occupation forces against civil and civilian infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and East Jerusalem”.
