DAR calls for stronger OIC-un-partnership to promote global peace, tolerance

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called on to strengthen the partnership between the organization of Islamic cooperation and the United Nations to promote a culture of peace and tolerance in a world ruined by conflicts.

When he spoke at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) High-level event on peace and tolerance held in New York to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), he emphasized that this partnership should prioritize the promotion of interfait and intercultural dialogue, protect holy sites and religious symbols and fight terrorism and violent extremism in all its form.

He also emphasized the importance of mobilizing humanitarian support – including through mechanisms such as Zakat and WAQF – while highlighting the need to strengthen women and young people through education, science, technology and active participation in peace building.

Dar referred to the universal relevance of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) inheritance, referring to the charter of Medina as a timeless model of pluralism, dialogue and interreligion relations based on mutual respect and understanding.

In his remarks, he emphasized the transformative effect of the prophet’s teachings and noted that his philosophy of justice, tolerance and peace is strongly reson by the principles of the UN Charter.

In a statement from the Foreign Office, DAR also emphasized the challenges that confronted the Muslim Ummah, including the global increase in Islamophobia and unresolved conflicts such as Palestine and Kashmir. He urged other Muslim states to intensify the efforts to protect the fundamental rights of Muslims and end fratricidal divisions within Ummah.

He confirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to these goals and its readiness to collaborate with OIC Member States and the broader international community in this collective endeavor.
