Dar for inclusive dialogue about confrontation

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar on Wednesday called for an inclusive dialogue and collaborative diplomacy on confrontation in the midst of times of growing turbulence around the world as “the cost of unresolved disputes, prolonged conflicts, unilateral actions and ignoring international law is felt in all regions”.

In his address delivered at the reception, hosting Pakistan’s mission in New York on the occasion of Pakistan’s Presidency of the UN Security Council, DPM Pakistan’s unwavering obligation to multilateralism, peaceful dispute resolution and the basic principles of the UN -Charter emphasized.

In a speech with diplomats, the UN officials and representatives of Member States, Dar emphasized that in the heart of Pakistan’s foreign policy was a firm belief in multilateralism and international rule of law. “The purposes and principles that are laid down in the UN-Charter, especially the peaceful settlement of disputes and the non-use or threat of power are fundamental to the United Nations and indispensable for a fair international order,” he said.

“The Security Council must not only be seen as a reaction chamber, but as a forum for prevention, problem solving and principled management,” he claimed.

Contributing Pakistan’s active diplomatic commitment, the Deputy Prime Minister said the country remains obliged to work with partners around the world to promote the shared goals of peace, development and human rights.
