Dar to attend Extraordinary OIC -Meeting at Gaza in Jeddah

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar is scheduled to visit Saudi -Arabia from August 25 to August 26 to participate in the extraordinary session in the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM), held in Jeddah.

“The high-level meeting is gathering foreign ministers and senior officials from OIC Member States to consider coordinating answers to the escalating development of Palestine,” spokesman for the Foreign Office said.

It is expected that considerations will focus on increasing concerns over Israeli military aggression, efforts on full control over Gaza, and ongoing violations of Palestinian rights.

The extraordinary CFM session, to be chairmaned by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, reflects an overall attitude of Muslim nations in the midst of in -depth humanitarian and political challenges in the region.

According to the Foreign Office, discussions will center on coordinating joint efforts to confront Israeli plans that anchor occupation, enforce blockades and contribute to an expanded humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

At the session, he is expected to press for the overall withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories, reject plans for extended military control over Gaza and call for uninterrupted humanitarian assistance.

He will also call for the restoration of Palestinian rights, including the establishment of an independent, coherent and sovereign state based on borders before June 1967, with al-QD’s al-Sharif as its capital.

The extraordinary session comes in the wake of Israel’s announcement to expand its military occupation of Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly rejected continuous ceasefire mediation efforts and instructed the military to accelerate the implementation of a plan aimed at asserting full control of Gaza City.

The plan, which was approved on August 8, reportedly includes the forced displacement of nearly a million inhabitants to southern Gaza, the surrounding of Gaza City and land operations within densely populated residential areas.
