Davey Johnson, Manager for 1986 Mets, Death of 82

Davey Johnson, a two-time manager for the year administering the New York Mets 1986 for a World Cup in the World Series, has died of 82.

Johnson was a three-time world champion who won two as a player. But none of them were as remarkable as the title he brought to Queens.

Down 5-3 at the bottom of the 10th in Game 6 against Boston Red Sox, Mets gathered to win the game, uncovered by Bill Buckner’s mistake that forced a game 7. Amazin’s went on to that game and their second title.

Before he became manager, Johnson was a four-time all-star as a player who won three consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1969 to 1971. They along with both his titles who player came with Baltimore Orioles.

Ironically, Johnson flew out to Cleon Jones to give Mets their first World Series title in 1969.

Johnson also managed Cincinnati Reds, Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals. He also managed the United States in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and World Baseball Classic in 2009.

Johnson is one of 15 leaders who end more than 300 games over .500 and won 85 or more games in all except one season as manager. He ranks 10. All the time in winning a percentage among leaders with at least 1,000 wins.

He was an early champion for analyzes, famous -related lineups and decisions with the Hall of Famer Earl Weaver.

In total, Johnson went 1,372-1.071 as manager.
