A frightening scene that was unfolded on progressive field in Cleveland Guardians-Detroit Tigers game on Tuesday night when Guardians’ David Fry was hit in the face of a bad tip on a bunt attempt.

At the bottom of the sixth round with Guardians down 2-1, there were runners on the corners without outs, as Tarik Pugal delivered a 2-1 tone height to Fry, who quickly turned to Square for a sacrificial bunt.

But 99 MPH Fastball from Pushal, Tigers’ Ace, was too far inside. When Fry came in contact with the track, it hit the top of his bat and redirect into his face.

Fry hit dirt on the home plate in immediate pain as Pushal threw his glove and hat in shock over what happened. Pushal was in clear discomfort after what unfolded, but everyone on the field and in the stands shared his feelings as teachers rushed out to fry.

Steps eventually stood up and blood flowed down from the nose. A wagon came out to take Fry from the track and as you would expect, his evening was over.

Unfortunately for Fry and The Guardians because the ball came in contact with bats before hitting him in the face, it was considered an evil ball and the count went to 2-2.

Pinch Hitter George Valera came in for Fry to finish bats and take its place for the rest of the game.

Inning ended up getting worse for pushing, and Tigers resumed once finally. His first pitch after the accident was wild, which allowed the runner at Third Base to score to tie the game while Jose Ramirez moved up to second place.

Then Pushal made a balk that allows Ramirez a free bag and a reason for the First Base scored him to take a 3-2 lead on his way into the seventh lap.

Pushal is one of the best throwers in MLB as the winner of the Cy Young Award from 2024 entered the game with an American league-leading 2.23 era over 189.1 laps. His resume this season makes him a front runner for the award again.

Meanwhile, this game has huge playoff implications, as Guardians are just a game behind the tigers as they began their last three-game, regular season series Tuesday night. Each game is crucial at this point, with only a handful of games left to determine who will fight for a World Series title in October.
