Washington Commanders’ Team Name was back in the news recently after President Donald Trump announced on social media that he wanted the franchise’s team name to return to its former name, Redskins.

Trump then took a step further and threatened to stop the team’s plans to build a new stadium in the country’s capital if they didn’t bring back the old name.

“My statement about Washington Redskins is completely blown up, but only in a very positive way,” Trump wrote in a true social post. “I may be able to limit them that if they do not change the name back to the original ‘Washington Redskins’, and get rid of the ridiculous moniker,’ Washington commanders, ‘I will not make a deal for them to build a stadium in Washington. The team would be much more valuable and the deal would be more exciting for everyone.’

Trump also called commanders “Washington ‘what is.”

DC Mayor Muriel Bowser did not sound concerned about Trump’s latest post and said she is “focused” on getting the stadium agreement over her last hump and that a blocking is probably not “an eventuality we need to plan for.”

“This is what I think – I’ve had the opportunity to talk on a few different occasions with the president about this site and about our team,” Bowser told ESPN. “And I can say this without ambiguity: He is a Jayden Daniels fan, and he said himself, and it is pressing we were that this is probably the best place in any place he has seen for a stadium. I have to think that is what I have heard him say, and that’s what we want to keep up with.

“Let me be ready: We’re on the 1-yard line and it’s time to get over the line,” she added. “I can’t even imagine having to start everywhere. There is no one waiting in the wings of $ 2.7 billion. And then this stadium is a catalyst and it will attract other investments. Any obstacle to being done must be deterred. When you’re on the 1-yard line, you wanna bear it, right?

Commanders General Manager Adam Peters is also unclear – even though the stadium agreement – and keeps his eyeballs on the product on the field wherever they play.

“Whether it’s stadium or something else (non-football-related), these things don’t really manage it to us,” Peters said. “We’re just trying to focus on what’s going on here and getting ready for the season.”

Trump added that MLB’s Cleveland Guardians should follow.

“Cleveland was to do the same with the Cleveland Indians. The owner of the Cleveland baseball team, Matt Dolan, who is very political, has lost three consecutive choices because of the ridiculous name change,” Trump said. “What he doesn’t understand is that if he changed the name back to Cleveland -Indians, he can actually win an election. Indians are treated very unfairly. Make Indians great again (Miga)!”

Both teams front offices have said that there are no plans to return to their old names or even change them again in any way.
