Dealers held in GB over tax protest

Islamabad:

A standoff between merchants and the government escalated on Monday when authorities detained several traders who protested against taxes at the Pakistan China border, said Media from Gilgit-Baltistan.

The traders who are part of Pak-China Trades Action Committee had announced the closure of the Silk Route Dry Port and blocked Karakoram Highway in Hunza and Nagar districts. The protest, which began Monday morning, had stranded hundreds of travelers, including tourists, in the area.

The traders require an end to the collection of income and VAT at Sost Silk Dry Port.
