Death tolls from floods rise to 299

Islamabad:

At least 299 people, including 140 children, lost their lives, and 715 others – among them 239 children – were injured in flash floods and stormy rain, swept through vulnerable areas in the country since June 26, according to the latest figures issued by National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Since June 26, flash floods and stormy rain have caused widespread destruction and a total of 1,676 houses in the affected areas. The serious weather also led to the loss of 428 livestock, which composed the impact on the local communities.

According to NDMA, a total of 299 people were killed – 140 children, 102 men and 57 women. The division of the data from the 715 wounded showed that there were 239 children, 204 women and 272 men.

NDMA performed 223 extensive rescue operations and evacuated 2,880 individuals from flood regions.

In addition, it also distributed 13,466 emergency relief articles in vulnerable areas, including 1,999 tents, 61 ration bags, 350 rescue jackets, 1,122 hygiene sets, 146 de-water pumps to support affected families.
