- From ambiguity to global fame spooks Deepseeks Rise Global Giants
- It is now sitting in the second position behind Openais Chatgpt
- Deepseeks 24-hour reign as the top AI expression triggered market chaos
On January 28, Deepseek R1, only eight days old at the time, became the world’s most popular AI expression on Google Trends for 24 hours.
It surpassed well-known AI terms such as Chatgpt, Llama, Gemini and Copilot, catching global attention and causing unprecedented volatility in stock markets.
This sudden increase sent shock waves through stock markets, which especially affect shares in larger companies such as NVIDIA and ASML, which saw a significant fall. The fear of investors with regard to Deepseeks “disturbing” potential led to massive sales, resulting in billions lost across different sectors on a single trading day. Nvidia was hit most and suffered from a record of $ 600 billion stock price falls.
Deepseek now other but remains popular
After its 24-hour climb, ‘Deepseek R1’ has now fallen to the second position behind just chatgpt on many territories, but remains top in Russia and surprising, China.
Deepseeks global popularity is still growing. According to similar web, the global daily visits to Deepseek within a few days doubled from 6.2 million to 12.4 million, while downloads in the Google Play Store are now exceeding 10 million.
Deepseek R1 has gained popularity not only for its performance, but also for its remarkably low development costs, allegedly about $ 6 million, compared to the billions used by its American colleagues NVIDIA, Google and Openai.
What is more striking is that in many cases it surpasses chatgpt and challenges the status quo in the AI -Tech industry.
Nevertheless, when Deepseek’s popularity rises, so does its evil. Several countries have taken significant steps to limit or prohibit its use, with reference to concern over data protection and national security.
From February 2025, Taiwan has banned state agencies and critical infrastructure from using Deepseek. Italy’s Data Protection Authority has blocked Deepseek from Mobile App stores while the US Navy has banned its staff to use the app.
Other countries including South Korea, Ireland, France, Australia and the Netherlands are also considering further actions.
