DEI: DOD Removes the Jackie Robinson feature on the site

A feature history of Jackie Robinson’s military service was briefly removed from the Department of Defense’s website on Tuesday, before being restored on Wednesday afternoon.

While the story had been removed, the new URL, which had also included the letters “dei” in it, read readers to a 404 page.

The story entitled “Sports Heroes, who served: Baseball Great Jackie Robinson was a wwii soldier,” was launched on February 9, 2021, written by David Vergun. Other features of “Sports Heroes serving” include Bob Feller, Hoyt Wilhelm, Bob Uecker and many others.

Pakinomist Digital reached the Pentagon about the removal of the story, and about it and the “Dei” involvement in the URL was intentionally.

The Pentagon did not say if it was done intentionally, but the Pentagon press secretary John Ullyot released the following statement to Pakinomist Digital before the story was restored:

“Everyone in the Ministry of Defense loves Jackie Robinson as well as Navajo Code, Tuskegee Airmen, the Marines at Iwo Jima and so many others – we greet them for their strong and in many cases heroic service to our country, full stop. We do not look at them through the prism of immovable characteristics, such as race, ethnicity, or gender. Dedicing the prism of imminent characteristics such as race, ethnicity, or sex.

“DEI – discriminatory equity ideology does the opposite. It is a form of woken cultural Marxism that shares the power, erodes the unity’s cohesion and interferes with the core guard mission of the service.

“We are satisfied with the quick compliance across the department with Directive Removal of the DEI content from all platforms. In the rare cases that the content is removed – either consciously or by mistake – it is out of the clearly outlined scope of the directive, we instruct the components and they correct the content to recognize our heroes for their dedicated service with their Med -Americans, period. “

When he was again asked if the actions were intentionally performed, the Pentagon rejected further comment.

In a separate statement to ESPN, Ullyot said that dei “has died in the Ministry of Defense. Discriminating equity ideology is a form of woken cultural Marxism that has no place in our military.”

Last month, Pentagon called for a “digital content update” that would “remove and archive DOD news articles, photos and videos that promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).”
