Deion Sanders doesn’t mess around.

The Colorado Buffaloes football coach instituted a fine policy for players who violate team rules as he prepares for the upcoming 2026 season. Being late to practice will incur a $500 fine, while skipping it altogether will cost $2,500.

Sanders announced the fines to the team last week. The structure was also seen in a video his son had posted on the Well Off Media YouTube channel. The system was not tied to the rise of name, image and likeness deals that have taken over college football and are unrelated to on-field performance. It was purely for violating team rules, which is allowed according to Colorado.

One of the biggest rules had to do with team gear. Transfer players wearing T-shirts, sweatshirts or anything else from their former team were strictly prohibited.

“It’s disrespectful,” Sanders said in the video. “It would be like your lady that you’re currently wearing her (ex-girlfriend’s) clothes. How do you feel about that? She’s sitting up there with a shirt that had her (ex-girlfriend’s) name on it… That’s how I feel when I see you come into the cafeteria – you’re eating our food with your last team on. Of course you should stay there if you’re going to stay there.”

Other fines included $2,000 for not showing up to a meeting or a movie and $400 for being late. A player will be fined $1,500 for failing to show up for practice and $1,000 for being late. A player can also be fined $2,500 for a violation of team rules and up to $5,000 for public or social media misconduct.

Sanders also rules out profanity outside the meeting room and emphasized the importance of being respectful to women.
