Deion Sanders was in a quarterback conundrum on Saturday, but he said he “(knew) exactly how to deal with it.”
The answer seemed to be revealed on Tuesday.
The University of Colorado scored big when Five Star’s Quarterback Julian Lewis committed to the buffaloes last November after discontinuing the USC.
Sanders gave Lewis his first taste of college action on the last weekend against the University of Delaware in a de facto quarterback match, with Week 1 starting Kaidon Salter, Lewis himself and Ryan Staub, who went into the season as third strings, all rotated drives.

All three quarterbacks saw the course in what was essentially a test. Salter that started again got the first two drives. Lewis went in and his two drives ended up in punts.
Then Staub came in and his first two full drives ended in touchdowns.
In total, Salter 13-For-16 went into 102 yards, and Staub went 7-for-10 in 156 yards and two touchdowns. They took the remaining drives after Lewis’ couple.
Staub is now reportedly parlaying this performance for a start this Friday against Houston in Colorado’s Big 12 opener.
Staub was the Backup Backup in each of the previous two seasons – he even honored the new Cleveland Brown’s quarterback by hitting his signature bag after a score on Saturday.

There was a moment on the sidelines on Saturday when Deion Sanders placed both hands on Staub’s helmet, staring through his face mask and looking to tell him, “I believe in you, man.”

Sanders knows that Staub could have transferred this season, but it seems that Sanders wants him to succeed in Boulder.
“Worked his ass and understands who we are, what we are, what we want from this position,” Sanders said, admitting he had a moment that reminded him of “Rudy.”
“He balled out so much, the whole student’s section sang his name,” he said.

“I was the guy who cried when I saw [Rudy]”Sanders continued.” The type of guys who did not really have opportunities or whatever they should have these have always been my guys. “It means a lot to me to see (Staub) stay around and have an opportunity when he could easily have dipped. … he’s one of those kids, man, and I’m proud.”
