New Delhi:
India expanded its punitive measures against Pakistan on Saturday and banned the import of goods coming from or transiting via Pakistan and blocking Pakistani ships, and blocking access to social media accounts for Pakistani actors and cricketers.
India’s Directorate -General for Foreign Trade said in a review that the ban would take effect immediately. “This restriction is introduced into the interest of national security and public politics,” it said.
India said Pakistani-flagged ships would not be allowed to visit any Indian harbor and that Indian marked ships would not visit any ports in Pakistan.
“This order is issued to ensure security of Indian assets, shipping and connected infrastructure, in public interest and of interest in Indian shipping,” states the shipping advertiser in a statement. Trade between the two nations has subsided in the last few years.
India’s Ministry of Communication also issued a statement and said it had “decided to suspend the exchange of all categories of incoming mail and packages from Pakistan through air and surface roads”.
However, the move is seen as largely symbolic, as regular diplomatic bloating between the two neighbors has prevented close economic ties for decades. But cultural ties remain much stronger.
On social media, on April 28, India banned more than a dozen Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly scattered “provocative” content, including Pakistani news sites.
On Saturday, further restrictions blocked access in India to the Instagram report on Pakistan’s ex-prime minister Imran Khan.
Bollywood -Film -Regular Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam were also out of bounds, as well as a host of cricketers -including Star Batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan and retired players Shahid Afridi and Wasim Akram.
The Olympic Gold Medal Arshad Nadeem’s Instagram account was also no longer available to Indian users, reflecting the broad extent of Clampdown beyond just cricket.
Users in India trying to access these accounts appear a message indicating that they are not available due to compliance with a legal request.
