- Dells RTO -Mandate comes into force on March 3, 2025
- Workers must be in the office five days a week
- There is something slack for hybrid work but it costs a price
In September 2024, we reported that Dell would adopt a return-to-office policy, and it has now been confirmed that all employees living within an hour of commuting from an office must go in five days a week.
The company’s full-time RTO mandate comes into force on Monday, March 3, 2025, but workers who live further away are still allowed to work externally.
The news follows several other similar messages across the tech industry that mark what could be the start of the end of the remote for many.
Dells RTO -Mandat has some gentleness
A note seen by Registered Indicated: “From March 3, all hybrid and distance team members who live near a Dell office will work in the office five days a week … We are retiring the hybrid policy effective that day. We remain obliged to flexibility within your work day and you must continue to work with your manager to meet your needs. But for the most part, you have to plan to work in the office five days a week. “
Although there seems to be some tolerance for Hybrid working among Dell’s employees living further afield, the company had previously come under fire to having made its external workers unjustified for campaigns.
CEO Michael Dell is one of the many leaders who quotes better productivity and cooperation on the back of personal interactions-a mood, apparently shared by Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, as e-commerce and cloud computing giant asked his workers to to visit the office more regularly.
Although the benefits of personal work are undeniable, there are occasions and roles that are better suited to work externally. Workers from all over the industry have expressed concern about entering the office when they have care and other tasks at home. More broadly, the pandemic induced increase in hybrid work helped increase their talent pools to workers who may not have considered a role in the past.
Techradar Pro has asked Dell to share more information about its revised policy, but we did not receive an immediate answer.
