Dense fog engulfs Karachi early morning, almost zero visibility

Dense fog reduced visibility to near zero in parts of Karachi early Sunday, disrupting road traffic in areas including Super Highway, Scheme 33, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Clifton.

The conditions created difficulties for motorists in the early morning hours, especially on major arteries and high-speed corridors.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 17.5°C. The fog started clearing after sunrise, gradually improving visibility over Karachi.

At least six international flights were diverted due to poor visibility, some of which were diverted to Muscat, while a private airline’s flight arriving from Jeddah was diverted to Islamabad, aviation sources said.

The Met Office said weather conditions are expected to remain dry over the next 24 hours, with cold temperatures likely during the night and early morning. The maximum temperature today is expected to be between 27°C and 29°C, compared to 30.8°C recorded a day earlier.

Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 5 to 15 kilometers per hour, while humidity levels could range between 40% and 95%, the department said.
