New Orleans Saints Quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement on Saturday.
The second round in 2014 had been dealing with a shoulder injury that put his 2025 -season in doubt – he missed seven games last year with a concussion and a broken hand.
“After reflection of prayer and in discussion with Heather, I have decided to retire from the National Football League,” Carr said in a statement.

“For more than 11 years we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humble of this experience. It is difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all teammates, coaches, leadership, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unshakable support has meant the world to us.”
The saints announced that the damage Carr suffered in March, a labral tear, and he “also had significant degenerative changes in his rotatmansjet.”
The saints said the operation would have put the season in danger and there would have been a decent chance that he would not find his old strength.

Carr hanging up in Cleats after throwing 41,245 Yards, 257 Touchdowns and 112 interceptions. He was appointed Pro Bowl four times, including every year from 2015 to 2017.
The car finished in third place in the NFL MVP vote in 2016, but his season was shortened due to a broken ankle. The then Oakland Raiders went 12-3 while under the center that season.
Due to this injury, Carr played in just an end game throughout his career, a loss of 26-19 to the possible Super Bowl champion Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild-Card round during the fall period 2021.

Carr spent his first nine seasons of Raiders before coming to the saints in front of the 2024 season on a four -year deal worth $ 150 million, with $ 100 million guaranteed.
