New Orleans Saints Quarterback Derek Carr announced his retirement on Saturday.

The second round in 2014 had been dealing with a shoulder injury that put his 2025 -season in doubt – he missed seven games last year with a concussion and a broken hand.

“After reflection of prayer and in discussion with Heather, I have decided to retire from the National Football League,” Carr said in a statement.

“For more than 11 years we have been incredibly blessed, and we are forever grateful and humble of this experience. It is difficult to find the right words to express our thanks to all teammates, coaches, leadership, ownership, team officials and especially the fans who made this journey so special. Your unshakable support has meant the world to us.”

The saints announced that the damage Carr suffered in March, a labral tear, and he “also had significant degenerative changes in his rotatmansjet.”

The saints said the operation would have put the season in danger and there would have been a decent chance that he would not find his old strength.
