Over the weekend, the public prosecutor’s office announced that it had dropped investigation into several Maccabi supporters because the city’s tram company, GVB, had deleted recordings that could have been used as evidence. The company replaced recording equipment at two metro stations in Amsterdam after the attacks and footage of the night were lost.

Yet more than a dozen people have already been indicted in connection with the violence, and several have already been convicted.

Two inquiries about the events said in reports on Monday that social media posts combined with a lack of official information burned the violence that followed the November match.

The Rotterdam-based Institute for Safety and Crisis Management, which is tasked with the Amsterdam government to investigate the response to the violence, said the lack of official communication from the city allowed rumors of social media to flourish.

It noted that there was little to no official communication in the early hours of November 8, partly because the situation was so unclear.

In a separate report, Inspectorate for the Justice Ministry concluded that police were prepared for a large scale demonstrations, not “flash attacks” committed all over the city and elicited by social media.

Both reports warned that even with improved communication, authorities still could not have controlled the rapidly spreading violence.

“Calls and images spread rapidly, enhance existing tension and can lead to group formation and street confrontations within a short period of time,” found the 57-page report.

Both reports warned that even with improved communication, authorities still could not have controlled the rapidly spreading violence.

The Ministry of Justice’s report noted that “events, such as removing a Palestinian flag of Maccabi supporters, were shared, interpreted and enlarged within minutes.”

At the forefront of the game, pro-Palestinian protesters were banned by local authorities to gather outside the stadium, and video showed a large crowd of Israeli fans sang anti-Arab slogans on the way to the game. Afterwards, youths crossed scooters and on foot the city in search of Israeli fans, stopped and kicked them and then quickly fled to avoid the police, per. Associated Press.

Danny Danon, the Israeli ambassador to the United Nations, previously made an exclusive statement to Pakinomist Digital about the incident.

“We see a pogrom against Jews and Israelis unfold in Amsterdam,” Danon said. “By 2024. This must stop. ‘Globalizes Intifada’ was not just a slogan for these terrorist supporters. I urge the Dutch government to help all Israelis and Jewish people immediately. It’s time to respond with power to these barbaric rebels.”

Danon elaborated and also sent a video on x

“We receive very disturbing reports of extreme violence against Israelis and Jews on the streets of the Netherlands,” he wrote. “There is a pogrom that is currently taking place in Europe in 2024. This is the true faces of the supporters of the radical terrorism we are fighting for. The Western world must wake up now !!”
