Senior political leaders were informed of the national security situation at a high-level meeting held in the state TV headquarters on Sunday in the middle of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India after the deadly April 22 attacks on tourists in Indian illegally illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), according to media reports.

Director-General Public Relations (ISPR) LT Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry and Information Minister Ataullah Tarar led the briefing, which included prominent figures such as PML-N’s Khurram Dastgir and Abid Sher Ali, PM’s adviser to interior Pervez Khattak and MQM’s DR Farooq Sattar.

Leaders from Jui-F, BAP and Key Sindh ministers, including Nasir Hussain Shah, Sharjeel Memon and Saeed Ghani, were also present.

The security briefing comes after India accused Pakistan of the Pahagam attack, which killed at least 26 people, despite giving no concrete evidence. In response, India took a number of unilateral steps, including suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of Pakistani Visa and closure of the Wagah-Attari border crossing.

Pakistan has strongly denied any involvement in the incident and has called for a credible, transparent investigation. In return, Islamabad expelled Indian diplomats, canceled Visa for Indian citizens – exclusionary SIKH pilgrims – and closed the border crossing on its part.

The situation has led to a sharp deterioration of bilateral ties between the two nuclear -armed neighbors.
