Crypto’s “Proof of Humanity” sector experienced a major merger Monday with the Holonym Foundation acquiring Gitcoin -Pass for a non -public sum of cash and symbols.
The transaction unites two close companies: Holonymous already distributed its technique through Gitcoin Passport, a logbook where 2 million Internet users stash proof of personality for services to verify that they are meat and blood.
AI agents are not humans, but they can pretend so much when money is on the line. Holonym and Gitcoin are among a wave of Crypto -Startups (especially Sam Altmans WorldCoin) building ways to silk bots out.
Gitcoin passports will redirect to human passports, and eight of its employees continue on holonyms, now 30 strong, said CEO Shady El Damaty. He plans to make the digital passport more portable, so it can “follow you wherever you go on the Internet,” performs the identity control needed to do business online.
First comes the privacy factor. Part of the appeal of flashing one’s gitcoin pass over, says a government’s -id is that the crypto -pass can certify its proprietor, as they claim to be without actually revealing their identity.
It does not change with the merger; El Damaty said it gets a boost. The nearly 35 million credentials stored on passports will be upgraded with zero-knowledge proof technology.
The best known use case for proof of humanity technique in Krypto may be delivered with AirDrops. Projects that seek to ensure that their token launches are rewarding people, not bots, have sometimes turned to tools like these. Holonyms helped secure $ 225 million in such distributions, El Damaty said.
But he also plans to collaborate with several humanitarian efforts, such as digital identity control for refugees who need access to financial support. An upcoming project will be connected to 1 million displaced persons.
The acquisition can strengthen Holonym’s ability to challenge WorldCoin, which leads the identity package by virtue of its association with Openais Sam Altman. “We place ourselves as an alternative to worldcoin,” said El Damaty.
