- A leaked reproduction of DJI Mini 5 Pro seems to reveal drone’s design
- A separate picture of the box may also have revealed its specifications
- The leaks suggest a 1-inch sensor and Lidar-driven autofocus
The DJI Mini 5 Pro seems unlikely to hit its previous rumor 7 August 7-launch date, but fans of small drones have at least got some comfort in the form of two large leaks-and they suggest a small flying camera that might be worth waiting a little longer.
First, a reproduction of the rumored successor to one of the world’s best drones was shared on the Discord Channel for drone hacks, giving us what could be our first look at the drone.
If the image is correct, the Mini 5 Pro will be very similar to its Mini 4 Pro predecessor, except for a larger camera module and the inclusion of two forward-facing Lidar sensors for improved obstacle offense.
The Lidar-powered feature has previously appeared on the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and DJI Air 3S, but this would be the first time we’ve seen it on a mini-series drone and it could be particularly useful if you fly in dim light.
Mini 5 Pro leaked reproduction! The leak did not come from our team, some beta tests shared a picture about public disagreement. Thanks for credit tho! #Mini5Pro https://t.co/lv1eqjcykdAugust 3, 2025
Even more revealing is the potential list of specifications shared by @jasperellens and Dronexl. According to some leaked packaging, the DJI Mini 5 Pro will have a 1-inch image sensor-up from 1/1.3-inch chip on the Mini 4 Pro and be able to record 4K/120FPS recordings, another easy lift from its predecessor’s 4K/100FPS mode.
Elsewhere, a “48mm MED-Tele mode of 48 mm has probably been equivalent to the one recently arrived at DJI pocket 3, thanks to a firmware update. This is effective a ‘loss-free’ crop state that may be convenient if you need a little more reach.
The leak also promises a 36-minute flight time, which would be a small boost on the alleged 34 minutes managed by the Mini 4 Pro (or 45 minutes if you are going out for the intelligent flight battery plus, which is not available in the EU).
The big question
While these Mini 5 Pro specifications actually sound very promising – and could make me consider upgrading my mini 3 pro drone – there is a slightly worrying omission from the box and the specification sheet.
Usually there is a “less than 249G” roof that accompanies the description of “ultra-light and foldable” description on a mini-series box. It is not this time, at least not on the leaked packaging.
Does this mean that the Mini 5 Pro could be the first in the series to exceed the crucial weight? In many regions, including the US and the UK, a under-250G weight is a selling point because flying rules are more relaxed. For example, in the open A1 category in the UK you can fly over strangers (but not crowds) without needing any extra permission.
There is a chance that the Mini 5 Pro’s new tech (larger camera, Lidar sensors, maybe new engines) has pushed it over the weight limit, but I would be surprised if it was.
The entire sales point of the Mini series has been that they offer advanced camera technology in a bundle that is hardly greater than a camera lens, and also ducks during the crucial weight barrier. I love my DJI Mini 3 Pro for all these reasons, so a new model that doesn’t mark all the same boxes wouldn’t have the same appeal.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Mini 5 Pro has been exposed from its previous rumor launch date, so we may have to wait a while to see it – and to find out if it will actually be sold in the United States.
